This retrospective analysis of 141 operations for perforated peptic ulcer described the experience of Department of Surgery, Chosun University Hospital between Jan 1976 and Dec 1990.
@ES Results include mortality rate, complications and morbidity rate:
@EN 1) After Primary Closure 14 patients(40%) died, 8.6% of These deaths occured within 24 hours of symptom development and 31.4% occured after 24 hours of symptom development.
The deaths were not a results of the type of surgery, and were usually due to a preoperative patient condition.
2) There was 32 cases 922.7%) with early complications such as wound infections, ARF which a counted for 24 cases917.2%) of primary closure. 9(7.9%) of these cases occured within 24 hours of Symptom development, 23982.1%) occured after 24 hours
of
symptom development.
3) 2 patients(15.4%) from the partial gastrectomy group experienced dumping Syndrome, and 6 patients(7.1%) from the Truncal Vagotomy & pyloroplasty group experienced Dumping syndrome.
4) After operation 25 patients(29.4%) in the Truncal vagotomy & pyloroplasty group experienced diarrhea. 2 patients(2.5%) in the H.S.V group and 3 patients(23%) in the partial gastrectomy group also experienced diarrhea.
5) After operation 5 patients(38.4%0 experiens weight loss from the partial gastrectomy group, 17 patients920%) from the Truncal vagotomy & pyloroplasty group and 1 patient(12.5%) of the H.S.V group also experienced weight loss.
6) After Truncal Vagotomy & Pyloroplasty 70 patients(82%) were estimated to be to be Visick Criteria I or II, or the H.S.V group 6 patietns(75%) were estimated to be Visick Crieria I or II, or the Primary Closure group 15 patietns(71%) were
Visick
Criteria I or II.
